Kristin Linnea Backe (Bidrag 6) - installation shots of analog C-prints/color darkroom work

Om kunstner / About the artist:

Kristin Linnea Backe is a photographer and visual artist. Her maybe most personal work is done in the darkroom, both analog c-prints, and gelatine-silver prints. She also likes to make installations, books, and repetition art, leaning towards a more sculptural art practice that is based on photography. The darkroom is a place of deep contemplation for her, and an important alternative to the binary. In the darkroom everything is slowed down, quiet, time almost ceases to exist and thorough and lovely training of the eye and all skills necessary are practiced. She says she found her soul in the
darkroom.

Kristin Linnea Backe is a photographer and former professional musician formerly based in NYC, but now back in Oslo. She found her artistic home as a photographer and never looked back. Her personal work is done in the darkroom where she works in what she thinks of as emotional color. She also loves the analog process as an artisanal way of working and as an alternative to the binary. She says: «I meet myself in the quietude of the color darkroom and learn new things about the process and myself, I found my soul in there - expressing myself through research of the material possibilities of analog photography”. Linnea’s darkroom work is about movement and vulnerability. She tries through beauty, movement and discomfort to remind us about the fragility, importance and beauty of the life-dance we are all part of. Movement is also a tie from her life as a musician and to her dance photography. She sees us as restless beings of flux down to a cellular level and deeper. She also contemplates how life is movement on both a philosophical and physical level, looking into the musicality of life in a sense.

Bidragenes sjanger / Genre:
Farge mørkerom, altså analog c-print / Entwined - installation shots of analog C-prints/color darkroom work.

Om bidragene / About the artwork:
Jeg jobber med det jeg tenker på som emosjonelle farger. Bildene handler om bevegelse og naturens sårbarhet, om hvordan vi er del av alt som lever. Fargemørkerommet trekker sammen alle trådene for meg - jeg er tidligere profesjonell musiker - der inne utforsker jeg musikaliteten i livet på en visuell måte - det er et stort privilegium.

As a former musician, the study of tonality and form is important to me, as is the flow of the melodic line. Music is a way of saying without really saying, a medium to hide oneself to reveal oneself. It gives immense freedom but the freedom is contained, pared-down, as it is in photography. In photography, singular objects can be the means for looking without telling, for asking questions without giving answers. The examination of these simple objects in time, as they are touched by light, gives the viewer the power to see in darkness. The enclosed photographs are installation shots of color darkroom prints. The one with the artifacts is how she has decided to present the work during her soon to open solo-show at Fotografiens Hus in Oslo. The photographs enclosed are a selection from the series shown at Fotografiens Hus.
